What Engines Are Available for the 2023 Ram 2500?
Drivers in search of more power to get the job done turn to heavy-duty trucks. Not only are they larger in size, but they also use more powerful engines, thus providing more towing capacity. Lifting the hood of any Ram 2500 trim level, you’ll uncover a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that provides the Ram 2500 with 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to tow up to 17,540 pounds of cargo when it is properly equipped. Meanwhile, to give drivers maximum performance and towing capacity, the Ram 2500 is available with a 6.7L Cummins TurboDiesel inline six-cylinder engine. Pumping out 370 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque, this provides drivers with a maximum towing capacity of 19,980 pounds. While the HEMI V8 engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, Ram 2500 models with the turbodiesel engine come with a six-speed automatic transmission with gear ratios refined to handle the massive amounts of torque. All 2500 models, aside from the Rebel, Power Wagon, and Limited, come with rear-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the otherwise optional 4×4 system comes standard with the aforementioned trims.
New Features for the 2023 Ram 2500
For 2023, Ram introduced a selection of new features for the Ram 2500. First is the all-new 12-inch digital instrument cluster. This new display screen behind the steering wheel shows drivers important driving information such as vehicle dynamics, driver assist alerts, vehicle speed, gauges, navigation directions, and much more. The screen is fully customizable to be tailored to the driver’s preferences. This new digital cluster is available for the lineup while standard on the Rebel, Power Wagon, and Limited trim levels. Another update to the 2023 Ram 2500 lineup is the new Rebel trim. The Rebel was previously exclusive to the Ram 1500 lineup, but now off-roading enthusiasts have a heavy-duty Rebel option. The first-ever Ram heavy-duty Rebel tackles the great outdoors with 11.1 inches of ground clearance, five-link rear coil suspension, Bilstein gas-charged monotube shocks, 33-inch all-terrain tires, a limited-slip rear differential, tow hooks, a rear electronic locker and more. The Rebel trim comes with the iconic and unique grille along with a Mopar sport-performance hood. Other standard features include an 8-way power driver’s seat, an 8.4- or 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, LED lighting, cloth or leather upholstery, three seating layout options, and more.
Is the Ram 2500 Safe?
So, the Ram 2500 is highly capable, which begs the question, is it also safe? The short answer is yes. The body of the Ram 2500 sits on a frame made of 97% high-strength steel with side impact beams. This frame is designed to keep impact energy away from the cabin to help ensure the safety of occupants in the event of a collision. Also for occupant safety, the Ram 2500 uses side curtain airbags for both rows as well as front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger. To help drivers prevent a collision, Ram offers the available Advanced Safety Group to the Ram 2500. This gives drivers advanced safety technologies including but not limited to adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic warning, and blindspot monitoring with trailer coverage.
